Description:
Peveril Solar House: detached house, West Bridgford, Nottingham, constructed 2007.
The solar PV installation is of 22 Sharp NU180 panels on an East facing roof of 40º pitch, installed by EvoEnergy. Electricity supplier is Good Energy. 3.96kW is installed nominally, but the Eastern azimuth means that it will never generate its full potential. We have surface+air temperature gauges & radiation sensor that transmit to the SunnyPortal. We hope for about 3,000 kWhrs per annum.
PV Roof was installed 1 Oct 2009, and SunnyPortal web-router on 24 Nov 2009.
The house is very well insulated, and heated by a Ground Source heatpump from Ice Energy, working to twin 48m deep boreholes in heavy clay soil. Heat is distributed by underfloor waterpipes. Cooking is electric by induction hob+oven+/microwave). Lighting is by energy efficient bulbs & a light tube in the centre of the house.
The additional panels shown on the south wall are a unique design - they put air & solar heat directly (via a glycol loop) into the deep boreholes, starting Mar 2010. These provide direct heat to the heat-pump, diurnial heat (day to evening) and they prevent inter-seasonal ground chilling.

The house owner, Mr Nicholson-Cole, works at the Univ of Nottingham, Dept of Built Environment, with a special interest in Sustainable Tall Buildings.
