Mandela Bay Pilot Project
As part of it’s vision to promote the generation and use of renewable energy, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in South Africa is investigating the feasibility of the small scale, grid-connected generation of energy from renewable sources.
A typical domestic dwelling has been selected for the purpose and the installation consists of solar panels, a wind turbine, battery storage and the necessary monitoring and control equipment with the intention of determining the practical, economic and other implications of such an installation.
Part of the study will be to store energy in the battery bank (1050Ah @ 48V) from the renewable sources / grid during the off-peak periods and generate from the batteries during peak periods under control of the Sunny-Backup charger / inverter.
Equipment (Original):
1kW Kestrel Wind Turbine
1kW PV panels
1700W SunnyBoy grid connect inverter
1700W WindyBoy grid connect inverter
SunnyBackup 5000W Controller/Inverter/Battery charger and switch-box
Sunny WebBox
24x 1050Ah 2V batteries
Update (2013/02/09)
